So I want to toot my own horn a little today. A couple of months ago my sister in law went to a cooking class that taught her how to make homemade yogurt. She gave me the recipe and it has saved us a ton of money. My kids suck down yogurt like it's going out of style. We had been spending at least eight dollars a week for the cheap off brand and that would barely get us through the week with me being the yogurt Nazi. Now i can make plenty for about 1.30 a week, it has literally saved us like fifty dollars.
Anyway it got me to thinking about finding other ways I could save money. This weekend I decided to try making tortellini from scratch. It turned out awesome if I do say so myself.
The ricotta cheese beginning to strain
They whey draining
Homemade ricotta
Pasta dough
Pasta machine
Spinach and ricotta filling
Filling the tortellini
Finished product
The only thing I think I will do differently next time is make the dough a little thinner.
Nice! You still need to get me that yogurt recipe! Also, we made our own laundry soap about three months ago. It cost $17 and it filled about 3/4 of a 5 gallon bucket. It cleans our clothes so we like it so far :) Let me know if you want that "recipe" ;P
