A couple of Saturdays ago we had a visit from a very old friend. His name is Shane and he was visiting from Florida for a week.
Steven and I were married for a good four years before Xander came along. Even though neither of us was actually going to college at this time that's what I like to think of that time of our life. It was very carefree and uncomplicated time and of course we had a great group of friends we hung out with most of the time. It's weird to think back about all the people in our life back then, most of them had Hollywood Video ties. Anne of course started the same day as Steven at the downtown store and was later my roommate at LDSBC. Shane was an assistant when they both started. Mel who was Anne's roommate later on was another store manager. And who could forget Scary Brian, Bud or Kyle. About the time I became pregnant with Xander people started to move on with their lives. Shane had already taken off for some exploit in the Middle East, Mel moved to Florida and Heather went to England.
Anyway Shane is an interesting character. He spent a good part of the 90's homeless and addicted to heroine in Austin Texas. Around 1998 he decided he'd had enough of that, cleaned himself up and moved to Salt Lake. He became active in the Church and graduated with a degree in Middle Eastern studies. He's very funny and passionate about anything he does. The purpose of his trip was to see everyone before he accepted a position in Egypt teaching English, but it looks like that is going to fall through which is too bad.
We went to lunch at San Pan. I'm not a huge fan of Chinese food but it was pretty good.
Then we played some card game. We had a great time visiting. It makes me nostalgic.
